Peter and Josh drive along in the desert in Josh’s ’79 Duster. Josh pulls over, citing engine problems as the reason, but Josh is trying to kill Peter with an ax, but Peter knows this and runs off.

Peter keeps running, and finally makes his way to an old house on the side of the road. Inside he meets an odd couple, Curtis and Mary. Curtis is obsessed with digging a drainage ditch in his front yard, and Mary is obsessed with Peter. With Curtis outside, Mary begins to come onto Peter, but Curtis comes back in and discovers them. Peter runs out to escape, and Curtis begins to beat Mary. Peter runs back into the house to help, but they have both disappeared. Peter continues down the road.

He makes it to another house, further down the road, and Mary answers the door. She has a black eye. Curtis is there as well, but none of them remember Peter. Curtis continues to work on his ditch, and Mary tells Peter that she can save him if he helps her get revenge on Curtis. So Peter goes out and hits Curtis with a shovel. He goes to tell Mary, but she has disappeared.

Peter makes his way to a third house. Curtis is there, but he is in a wheelchair. Mary is also there, but neither of them remembers Peter. As Peter sits there, Josh pulls up in his car, and Josh also has no memory of Peter. Curtis takes Josh outside, and Mary takes Peter to the side. Mary tells Peter to save her, to get a ride with Josh to town and come back for her. Outside, Peter can see Josh and Curtis talking about him. They come inside and offer Peter a ride; Mary accepts on Peter’s behalf.

So once more Peter finds himself getting a ride from Josh, and they travel off -back to the desert.
